The Study on the Timing of Ancymidol Soil Drenches and Extraction of Ancymidol - like Substances in Potted Lilium brownii Lily

Wilkins, Harold F
Abstract
For the potted lily plant production, Lilium brownii lily plants were grown in pots filled with ancymidol amended soil mix. The concentration of ancymidol was 0, 0.313, 0.625, 1.25, and 5 ppm. After shoot emergence, ancymidol was soil drenched at the above concentration for two times to the same pot of a given concentration.
Extration of ancymidol-like substances from leaves at anthesis was performed, followed by rice seedling bioassay for the first time in the plant materials.
Ancymidol soil amendment treatment before potting with soil drench treatments after shoot emergence significantly reduced the plant height and also the stem length bearing dead dried leaves, and reduced the upper leaf length. Soil amendment treatment also reduced concentration of ancymidol down to 2.5 ppm which still produced good potted lily plants.
Extraction of ancymidol-like substances was partially successful which was located in the chromatogram near Rf 0.5 with water and Rf 0.2 with Butanol: Acetic Acid: H©üO (4 : 1 : 5) solvent systems.
